Heirloom pre-1920. Laurentian Rutabaga is large, mildly flavored, and stores well. Tops are pale purple with a nice yellow flesh. Each root weighs in at over a pound and the texture is fine. What could be more perfect in a New England boiled dinner?

Germination Temperature:Optimum soil temperatures 65-75F.

Seed Sowing Depth:1/2” deep

Sowing Outdoors: Mid-spring, around the last frost date or 90 days before you will want to harvest the roots. Sow a few seeds every 6”, thin to the strongest seedling.

Harvest: After a few frosts, when they become their sweetest and before they get too big and woody. Cut tops off and store.

Tips:Plant Laurentian Rutabaga in loose, rich soil. Amend with compost at planting time if needed. Consistent moisture is required for optimum results. Great storage vegetable, up to 6 months.
